KINDER Los pequeños de kinder estarán escuchando la lectura de dos de los libros del Dr. Seuss, discutirán ideas principales y trabajarán en vocabulario y rimas.
Cuando
Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904) entró a la universidad de Darthmouth se interesó en
colaborar con el diario universitario y muy pronto se convirtió en el editor en
jefe. Se dice que durante el periodo de la ley seca en Estados Unidos (ley que prohibía
la venta de alcohol durante la década del 20), Geisel fue sorprendido dando una
fiesta y por lo tanto privado de sus actividades en el diario. Por esto motivo
y para continuar escribiendo, el escritor y dibujante decidió usar el seudónido
de "Seuss".

Publicó más de 60 libros para niños, que a menudo se caracterizan por sus personajes imaginativos, rimas y el uso frecuente del contador de trisílabas.
Dr. Seuss escribió libros tan populares como Hop on Pop, ¡Cómo el Grinch robó la Navidad! (How The Grinch Stole Christmas), que tiene como personaje principal al Grinch, El Lorax (The Lorax) y El gato en el sombrero o también conocido como El gato garabato (The Cat in the Hat). Usando cuentos e imágenes surrealistas, las obras de Seuss despiertan la imaginación de los lectores a la vez que tratan temas esenciales como el deterioro del medio ambiente o la adquisición de la propia identidad. El constante juego de palabras convierte sus textos en obras casi intraducibles.
En el año 1984 recibió una mención especial del premio Pulitzer, por su contribución a la literatura infantil.

EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON – The Early Childhood and Elementary will be carrying out a READ – A – THON for Grades K-5 during the month of March. Students will receive a Read-a-thon Recording Sheet and a bookmark on Monday, March 3, and will be asked to keep a record of the books they read during the month of March (whether the book is read as a school assignment or for pleasure). The winner of each homeroom class will be awarded a special medal and certificate, and will be treated to a very special lunch in a restaurant on Friday, April 4 (donated by our DPTO). Please help us by encouraging your child to read at home every day!

YEARBOOK PICTURES UPDATE - Order forms for the yearbook pictures were sent home last week. Please make sure to send your form back with the exact amount of money or a check. We will be receiving orders until March 11th.
CHRONICLES OF DISCOVERY SCHOOL - Each year at Discovery School we host the event "Chronicles of Discovery," destined to promote literature and art developed by our students and reward those whose works excel in these areas. The event is organized by the students of the AP Literature and Composition class. Throughout the award ceremony, students conduct art exhibition, musical performance, and recitation, among other activities. There will also be live music and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.
We would like to invite you to Chronicles of Discovery and help us fund it. The event is sponsored by companies and donations from parents. Any sum of money is welcomed, and may be delivered to Mr. Fenn (high school building, Room #3). Thank you for helping us promote the artistic school spirit. We hope to see you at the event on April 25.
